This is not going to be a political post. This is just me, complaining about my cancelled vacation. I know, I know. There are bigger problems out there in the world right now, but those problems are too big for me to think about. Instead, I’m going to share with you what we had PLANNED on doing during our Spring Break vacation and what our plans are going forward. It’s up to you to read it. Of course you don’t have to, so please don’t make rude comments!
Spring Break = CANCELLED VACATION
Not that we are counting or anything but it has been 297 days since our last vacation. We had decided this year that we were going to focus on saving up money for something we have been planning for a while (I can’t tell you about this yet). However, instead of taking a vacation every school break like we typically do we were going to be responsible and wait a while before going on a vacation. So we didn’t go anywhere on Fall Break or Christmas Break… but Spring Break we couldn’t resist booking a trip! I got a great Travel Agent rate at Disney & Universal so we booked it and started counting down the days.
UNTIL… you know. I’m not even going to say it. But we had to cancel everything (and luckily did get our money back). Is it the end of the world that we couldn’t go on our vacation? No. It’s not. And now that I’ve had weeks to grieve I know that it’s okay. It actually worked out better financially. It forced us to be responsible and wait a year like we had originally planned. However, I still get a little sad when I think about all of the fun we would have had. Not that sitting around stuck in our house for the past three and a half weeks hasn’t been fun…
What did our plans for Spring Break look like?
If you don’t care about what we WERE going to do you can skip below to our plans for the future. But I feel like I had to write this all out so I have closure. I’m obviously still working through this process. Ha!
We were headed back to Universal Orlando finally!
We hadn’t visited Universal parks since May 2018! Universal is one of our favorite places to go, but we just hadn’t been able to fit it in the plans the last few times we’ve gone to Florida. We have visited the resorts and CityWalk, but just haven’t made it into the parks in a while.
We were really excited that we were going to be saying at Portofino Bay Resort again. We’ve stayed there once, but it was only for one night in the Despicable Me Minion Suite! I was looking forward to exploring the resort a bit more and enjoying the pool area.
Here are some of the things we were the most excited about:
- Eating at Cowfish, VIVO Italian Kitchen, and Margaritaville
- FINALLY getting to ride HAGRID’S!
- Sipping on some frozen Butterbeer in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter
- Enjoying a day at Volcano Bay
Of course Disney World was also in the plans…
So, initially this trip was supposed to be ALL about Universal, but I found an AMAZING rate at… Disney’s POLYNESIAN RESORT. Talk about a dream. I was SO excited when I presented my findings to my husband and he said “Heck yeah! As long as you get reservations for O’hana.” And I did!
Ashtyn was bragging to everyone at school about how he was going to be staying at one of the most expensive Disney Resorts. We were only staying for 2 nights, but it was going to be worth every penny. We were especially excited about being on the monorail line again and watching Happily Ever After from the beach.
Things we were looking forward to at Disney:
- Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
- The Flower & Garden Festival at EPCOT
- Our first time wearing matching Disney shirts from Kohls (well, maybe just I was)
What are our plans moving forward?
Well, even though our vacation was cancelled we still have to plan for the future. We are planning a non theme park trip for the end of May, however we are also prepared to have to cancel that as well. Unfortunately, we know that in these weird times that anything can happen. But, if we don’t have something to look forward to we’ll lose our minds!
In honor of our cancelled vacation we also plan on doing a Disney at Home Day this weekend (if the grocery store allows). This will include:
- Wearing our matching Disney shirts (I know the guys can’t wait)
- Having home made Dole Whips for an afternoon snack
- Recreating some dinner items from O’hana (hopefully) including: Pineapple Teriyaki Glaze Yakisoba Noodles, Honey Coriander Chicken Wings, and O’hana Bread Pudding
- Watching Happily Ever After on YouTube
- Watching a Disney movie on Disney+
In all of this madness we have chosen to look to the future. The HAPPY future. The future that includes us frolicking at the parks again. Until then we’ll just be dreaming about it.
