Our Last Six Months of Blogging at Lau Family Travels – A 6 Month Review

Our blog was launched on December 31st, 2017 with lots of goals and ideas about what we would do with it.  We were going to use Amazon Affiliates and put ads all over the place to monetize.  We were going to spread our word fast about my travel business and find lots of leads.  Ashtyn was going to become a YouTube sensation!  So, what actually happened?  Check out my 6 month review of what blogging is really like!

This is a REAL, no lies, 6 month review of what it’s like being a blogger.  Beware.  I may crush your dreams.

We had big dreams for our blog.  And we still do, don’t get me wrong.  We are just a little more realistic now.  You see…  I did a lot of research into blogging and how people make TONS of money in their first month, or first 3 months, or first 6 months.  Well, we haven’t made a dime.  Come to find out a LOT (not all) of those posts are kinda misleading…  because they are trying to get your to buy their product…  which really does MAKE THEM MONEY.

I can’t do that.  I can’t post some picture of my ONE good day of traffic (there are more than that, I’m just saying for example) and then say it was all because of THIS product that I got all of these views – buy it now!  That’s why I’ve always been horrible at sales.  I’m just too honest.  I just can’t justify bending the truth for my own profit.  There has GOT to be a way to be successful in the world and still keep your integrity, right?

There are good things to blogging…  if you like this sort of thing.

Here’s the thing.  I wouldn’t have started a blog if I didn’t enjoy writing and sharing all things travel related.  I LOVE my blog and what it’s become.  Writing about all the places we’ve gone to and the places we dream to go is fun to me.  I enjoy connecting with other travel bloggers and reading their stories.  And I especially love when someone comments and tells me that they enjoyed my post!

I want to help people who are looking into vacationing at Disney, Universal, or some of the other places we’ve been.  I hope that they read my post and it helps them make their decision on what resort to stay at, or what activities to include in their next vacation.  Hopefully people find it helpful, yet still entertaining.  I want them to tell their friends about Lau Family Travels because they love reading our content!

The long-term goal of Lau Family Travels:

I’m not going to lie.  My long-term goal is to make Lau Family Travels a BUSINESS not just a hobby.  I would LOVE to make this my only JOB and spend my time traveling the world with my family.  Will that happen any time soon?  Most likely not, but I’m going to keep trying.  I keep trying because I love doing it.  This 6 month review has definitely made us change the way we think about the direction of our blog.  I will keep researching, writing, sharing and networking as much as I can.  We can’t give up now!  We’ve only just begun!

All that is so true. Those videos make you believe if you do one trick you’ll be a millionaire at the start. It just doesn’t work like that.
