We have been to Disney A LOT and we LOVE Disney character meals! We don’t really like to wait in line to meet characters, so being able to see them while we eat is a great option for us! The interaction during the sit down meals is great and much more relaxed than waiting in a line to take a quick picture! Check out what our top 5 favorite Disney character meals are (plus an honorable mention)!
Our Top 5 Favorite Disney Character Meals are ALL Buffet Style!
It’s true. When we go to Disney we like to have one big meal and then small snacks throughout the day. It’s just how the Lau’s vacation! Luckily some of our favorite Disney character meals are buffets! We usually do a late breakfast/early lunch buffet and then we just snack the rest of the day. It works out perfectly for us AND we get to see (and take pictures with) our favorite Disney characters!
Hollywood & Vine – Disney Junior Play ‘n Dine
If your child is a Disney Junior addict like mine was then you NEED to take them to Hollywood & Vine character buffet at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This was our must-do meal every time we visited Disney and basically it was for the character interaction alone. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a buffet and the food is decent, but it’s not outstanding in any way.
When we went it was a lunch buffet, however now it’s a breakfast buffet from 8am – 10:20am. There is singing and dancing cast members that perform every so often and get the kids up and dancing around. They also have a great variety of characters to meet from the Disney Junior shows. Last I knew the characters were Jake (the Neverland Pirate), Sophia the First, Doc McStuffins and Handy Manny.
If you want an extra fun interaction bring a toy or prop along that will get the characters attention. Our son brought along Stuffy the Dragon from Doc McStuffins’ show and she grabbed him and started jumping up and down hugging him. It was super cute and he thought it was the funniest thing!
1900 Park Fare – Supercalifragilistic Breakfast & Cinderella’s Happily Ever After Dinner
1900 Park Fare is mine and my husband’s favorite character meal at Disney. It’s probably my favorite because it gets me to the Grand Floridian where I can pretend I’m high class. 1900 Park Fare has two character meals: Supercalifragilistic Breakfast and Cinderella’s Happily Ever After Dinner. We have gone to both and they are both outstanding!
The Supercalifragilistic Breakfast is a great breakfast buffet with hot and cold items as well as GUMMY BEARS! Don’t let Marry Poppins catch you eating sweets before you eat something healthy though! When we went there we saw Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Mary Poppins, Alice (in Wonderland), and THE MAD HATTER. The Mad Hatter was a riot… I mean seriously. The guy was hilarious!
Cinderella’s Happily Ever After Dinner has (in my opinion) they best buffet food on property. If my husband loves it, it’s good (he’s picky)! During this dinner buffet you will be meeting with Cinderella and her Prince and you will also get a chance to meet Anastasia, Drizella, Lady Tremaine, and/or the Fairy Godmother. We have always had a great time here because the face characters are so much fun and actually talk to you! Ashtyn has a little love triangle going on between Cinderella & her step sisters… who knows what might happen next time we go!
Donald’s Tusker House Character Breakfast & Lunch
When we go to Animal Kingdom eating breakfast at the Tusker House is a MUST! This character meal is Donald Duck’s time to shine! He’s dressed up in his safari outfit and ready to meet and greet! This character meal is unique because there are African inspired food options available (as well as the regular buffet typed foods). When we went we got to meet Mickey, Daisy, Goofy, and of course DONALD (he’s #1 at this character location remember)! Make sure you get some jungle juice! It’s delicious!
The Crystal Palace
The Crystal Palace is the most beautiful building located in the Magic Kingdom (besides Cinderella’s Castle of course)! We have done the lunch buffet at The Crystal Palace twice and we like that there is a wide variety available. The first time we went they had these REALLY delicious teriyaki chicken wings, but the next time we went they didn’t have them. My husband was a little disappointed, but he just stocked up on the kids macaroni and cheese! The character interaction at this location is great because they are soft and cuddly! We met Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, and Tigger!
Honorable Mention to cape may cafe dinner!
Okay, so Cape May Cafe does have a character breakfast called Minnie’s Beach Bash Breakfast. It’s a regular breakfast buffet with characters in their beach-wear. It doesn’t make the cut on my favorite Disney character meals though.
The Seafood-and-More Dinner Buffet at Cape May Cafe is OUTSTANDING. This is one of our favorite restaurants ANYWHERE. If you love seafood (or even if you don’t) you definitely need to try out this restaurant. My husband fills up on crab legs, but I personally LOVE the salad they have there! It’s probably the ONLY time you’ll ever hear me say I loved the salad. Ha!
You really can’t go wrong with a Disney character meal. Please remember that reservations are almost REQUIRED. Disney reservations open up 180 days in advance and for many of the character meals they fill up very quickly, especially during busy times of the year.
There are a lot of other Disney character meals as well (we have done MANY of them, but still have a lot to do yet)! To see a list of ALL of the character dining available check out the Walt Disney World website!
