Universal’s Islands of Adventure is such a fun park! I feel ready for an adventure when I walk through the entry of Islands of Adventure. Hopefully this Islands of Adventure quick guide will help you with planning your next trip to Universal Orlando. Don’t miss out on my favorite park at Universal Orlando!
Universal’s Islands of Adventure transports you to another place! Let the adventure begin!
It’s funny that I enjoy being INSIDE the Islands of Adventure better, even though most of my favorite rides are in Universal Studios! I just really love the FEEL of this park and it does make me feel like I’m about to go on an adventure! We have so much fun just walking around this park.
This is just a Universal Islands of Adventure Quick Guide, not a comprehensive guide.
In today’s post I am only going to be giving a quick review of the various areas located inside Universal’s Islands of Adventure, some of our favorite attractions in each area, and a few places to grab a bite to eat in the park. This is NOT a comprehensive guide! But don’t worry… I’m working on that! For now enjoy my Islands of Adventure Quick Guide!
Port of Entry
This is just the area that you enter (port of ENTRY) when you first get into the park. I love looking in the shops, especially the Port Of Entry Christmas Shoppe! It’s Christmas all year here! One of our favorite sit down restaurants is also located in the Port of Entry. Confisco Grille is a GREAT place to stop and eat (and enjoy some air conditioning). You can take a look at their menu here!
What’s not to love about an area that is based all around Dr. Seuss? My brother in law actually hates this part of the park because of the constant horn tooting music that plays, but this part of the park makes me feel like a kid stuck inside a Dr. Seuss book! My favorite attractions is The High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride! This train ride takes you through Seuss Landing with sneak peaks into areas of the park that you might not see otherwise!
The Lost Continent
The Lost Continent is exactly that. I think a lot of people skip this area of the park (or just run through it to get to Hogsmeade). We did check out Poseidon’s Fury once. It was a cute little show, but it’s standing only. Which after a long day of walking around the park the last thing I wanted to do! Mythos restaurant is also located in this section of the park and it won an award for best amusement park restaurant. We’ve never eaten there, but many people have told me it’s delicious!
Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade
So, if you read my Universal Studios Quick Guide you know that Diagon Alley is my favorite Harry Potter section at Universal Orlando. However, that doesn’t mean I don’t find Hogsmeade magical too! When you see the Hogwarts Express and Hogwarts Castle you can’t help but be mesmerized! Inside this area of the park you will find Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey attraction (located inside Hogwarts Castle). This ride isn’t my favorite, and we often skip it, but you should try it at least once!
COMING SOON to Hogsmeade
Sadly, a couple years ago Universal decided to demolish the Dueling Dragons coasters. These were INTENSE roller coasters and a LOT of fun for us thrill seekers. However, Universal must have had something better in mind. They recently released a sneak peak poster into what the new coaster is going to be… any ideas?
The Jurassic Park theme music has always been one of my favorite movie soundtracks to listen to and it is pumped throughout this area of the park! We really enjoy the Jurassic Park River Adventure (you’re probably gonna get wet). Last time we went we wanted to do the meet with a Raptor, but we got distracted and didn’t end up having time to do it. I’ve seen hilarious videos from this meet & greet!
Skull Island is basically only for Skull Island Reign of Kong. I’m not sure that it should really be considered an area of the park, but it is on the map so I’m going with it. Reign of Kong is pretty intense, but unique in that there are scenes all around you and you can really get a different experience depending on where in the truck you are riding! My biggest beef with this attraction is the SUPER dark queue area! I’m always running into the walls!
This is the area you go to if you are hot and want to get wet. Last time we went to Universal we gave my son one WHOLE day to boss us around on vacation. And he chose to use this time to make me go on the water rides over and over again until I threw a hissy fit like a child! Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges and Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls are going to get you more wet than going to Volcano Bay. This was your warning.
Marvel Super Hero Island
Marvel Super Hero Island is based all around Marvel Super Heroes (no way)! It’s my FAVORITE section of the whole park! It also houses two of my most favorite attractions! The Incredible Hulk Coaster and Doctor Doom’s Fearfall are two of my favorite attractions in Universal. This area of the park also contains The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man as well which is a 3D attraction.
The Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle
During select nights there is a beautiful castle projection show set to music and sound effects. We really enjoyed it and thought it was worth seeing (at least once)! The show doesn’t start until it gets dark, but it gets REALLY crowded back there! The show itself only lasts a few minutes, but we enjoyed every minute of it!
