Last Christmas season (December 2018) we went to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party (MVMCP) and we had a great time!  We had never been to a special ticketed Disney event before and we really weren’t sure what to expect.   We would definitely go back to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party again!  Keep reading for reasons on why we think you should go to MVMCP.

First let me say that we did not “do” Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party “right”.  We really hadn’t planned much in advance.  Also, it was going to be our only Magic Kingdom day in the parks. We didn’t want to buy a full ticket for that day, so we arrived at Magic Kingdom around 3:30 p.m for entry at 4 p.m with the party ticket.  Typically they let you in at 4 p.m if you only have a party ticket, but they let us in a bit earlier.  I think they let us in around 3:45 p.m.  We wanted to be able to do all our favorite attractions since we wouldn’t be coming back to Magic Kingdom.  And we went to the party with that goal in mind.  We didn’t really want to do any of the “special events” that you can only do at the party.  Even though that’s why most people go (and why you should)!  We just had a different goal in mind!

What We DID Do at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party

Shorter Wait Times at Attractions

As I said before we chose to focus on attractions during the Christmas party (for the most part).  We went on a lot of attractions in a short amount of time.  The greatest thing about the special tickets events is that the wait times are much lower.  We didn’t have any fast passes (they aren’t available for parties), but we were able to go on all the attractions we wanted to.  We went on Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Space Mountain, PeopleMover, Mad Tea Party, It’s a Small World, 7 Dwarfs Mine, and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Special Edition Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom Cards

During special events they often have limited edition Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom cards to collect.  They will only give you one per guest.  We actually haven’t ever played the Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom at Disney, but we are saving them for the future!

Yummy Snacks & Drinks Included at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party

We also wanted to make sure we got all the free goodies that we could!  During MVMCP there are special “free” treat stations!  Some of the treats include special Christmas tree shaped pretzels, snow cones, all sorts of cookies, egg nog, and hot chocolate.  Our goal was to stop at every treat station.  We had to try everything for this blog right?  Ha!

Lots of cookies

We may have gotten too many cookies…

Special Holiday Fireworks

We really had wanted to stay at the party until midnight (that’s when it officially ends).  However, we are NOT late night people and we started getting tired at 9 p.m.  Ashtyn was begging to leave to go back to the resort, but I couldn’t leave without at least seeing the special holiday fireworks.  Last year it was called Holiday Wishes, but there is a new show this year!  Honestly, we were a bit disappointed (don’t be mad at me).  We LOVE LOVE LOVE Disney firework shows.  Especially at Magic Kingdom.  But we though the holiday one was just mediocre.  It could have been the exhaustion…

What We Didn’t Do That You COULD Do at MVMCP

Special Character Meet & Greets at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party

This seems to be the big event at special parties/events at Disney World.  At MVMCP you can meet characters like Jack Skellington dressed as Sandy Claws, Scrooge McDuck and Mr. & Mrs. Claus!  There are a lot of other character meet & greets as well.  We really don’t like standing around in long lines to just get some pictures taken with a character.  I get the appeal and I definitely would if we went to Disney World more often.  However, I would rather spend my time riding attractions and eating!  Just personal preference!

A Fantastic Holiday Themed Parade

We also aren’t “parade people”.  I think the only parade we’ve ever seen at Disney is the Fantasy of Festival Parade (ONCE).  It was great (for a parade), but it’s just something that we prefer to skip.  I wish we would have watched the Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmastime Parade and we probably would have if we were staying longer, but we didn’t.  I just watched it on TV instead.

Special Dessert & Fireworks Parties

Did you know that there are special parties inside the party?  Well, apparently there are!  You can purchase tickets to a special dessert & dessert/fireworks party within the party!  Woah.  This year there are two fireworks dessert parties to choose from.  One of them is at Tomorrowland Terrace, while the other is at the Plaza Garden.  There is also a special parade dessert party that takes place at Tony’s Town Square.

We Would Definitely Go to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Again!

As you can see, there was so much that we didn’t get to do at MVMCP!  I believe that the party is worth the money (especially since we didn’t have a park ticket for that day).  The ticket prices seem to get more expensive the closer to Christmas you get so going earlier will save you more money.  It also says online that advanced purchase saves you $10 per ticket!   Please check with your Travel Agent if you are interested in attending!  They can help you book & plan to get the most for your money!

This year (2019) Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party takes place from 7:00 PM to midnight on the following dates:

November: 8, 11, 12, 14, 15, 17, 19, 21, 22 and 24
December: 1, 3, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 13, 15, 17, 19, 20 and 22

We went on December 20th last year, so it was one of the pricier ticket options.  But I still think it was worth it!
